Reflections

During the last few days I have been thinking of this past year as many of us do at this time. Pondering the many things I have done with my photography and surprisingly as I think about it I have done a lot. Kate asked me what I thought my favorite or most important projects where, or maybe more to the point what did I enjoyed the most. Take the jump and I will tell you what I think of this past year and how it has helped me to really begin to define who I am as a photographer.

Win or lose that is not the point

Back in November Nikon announced a contest titled Nikon Festival. The challenge was to create a short film that would fit into 140 seconds, inspired by the total number of characters one can use in a Twitter Tweet. Inspired I took up the challenge and decided to go the extra mile to create my short film. Here is the result of efforts and more details after the jump.

In a world that is filled with countless books on how to be this-or-that type of photographer it is not often that a really great book comes along that transcends those how-to books. Visionmonger is that book, it has been gaining rave reviews and one I decided to order for myself.

Up at O’dark thirty as we used to say in the Army but it wasn’t to go wait in some long line outside the local department store in the cold. One in 8 Million

I was reading one of my favorite online blogs and ran across an older entry that talked about this cool New York Times project.

I was struck by how they are capturing the stories of everyday people using both still images and interviews. It really highlights that everyone truly does have a story and that we all walk around with interesting people going right by us and as if we were all Zombies, we just wonder around oblivious. This is really getting the wheels turning in my head for a possible project.

Commencing Countdown, Engines On

5.. 4.. 3.. 2.. 1.. What do you get when you cross a recently picked corn field and those young at heart who love launching rockets? A fun two day event with young and old looking toward the sky as rockets race from launching pads.

Brown County Breakdown

So it’s October, the leaves are beginning their march to color, the air is getting crisp, and the days are getting shorter. October also brings one of the major mountain biking events, or what is quickly becoming the major mountain biking event in Indiana and the midwest, the Brown County Breakdown.

What motivates us, what drives us to keep going, what keeps us from just throwing our hands in the air and saying enough is enough, I’m done! Tonight I was catching up on some of my blog readings and one I always try to keep on top of but have fallen behind because I’ve been crazy busy is Zack Arias’ blog. Will it was just what I needed to read tonight. Check out this video he put together with his Canon 5d MkII with 50mm lens. But for the complete story read on after the jump.
